Top 5 Wednesday | Summer Reads
12:00 PM
Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey and is currently being hosted by Sam.
I don't really discriminate against reading certain types of books in certain types of weather, but there are definitely some titles (and authors) that scream summer fun.
5. Horrorstör
- I wanted to put something on this list that was a little unexpected. This book is incredibly fun - both in concept and in the story. Presented like a catalog that you would find for a store such as Ikea, Horrorstör follows a cast of characters as they spend time in a superstore that isn't exactly normal. Creepy, funny, and a totally unique experience, this book is begging to be read late at night while a summer storm is keeping you awake.
4. I'll Give You the Sun
- I don't need everything I read in the summer to be light and fluffy. Jandy Nelson's writing is the kind that I can just fully sink into and the characters that she brings to life within the pages of this book are ones that I love deeply. While this book deals with heavier topics, it never feels overbearing, which means that I can devour it without being too emotionally compromised.
3. Everything Leads to You
- I adore this book. It takes on the issue of discovering one's sexuality in a way that I find incredibly refreshing - perfect for summer. The story combines intrigue, romance, and fun in a way that works flawlessly, and it doesn't hurt that the film and set design elements are executed wonderfully. LaCour's story is one that I could read over and over and never tire of - it always makes me smile and it always makes me think of summer.
2. Morgan Matson
- The queen of summer contemporaries, let's be real. Out of all of her books, I would suggest Since You've Been Gone and Amy & Roger's Epic Detour as my favorites to read during the summer, although all of them are great. Road trip fun, bucket list fun - every type of summer fun that I like to read about is included in Matson's books.
1. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
- While I can read my favorite book of all time at any time, there is just something about this book and summer that go hand-in-hand. This book, while also making me cry more than I would like to admit, makes me so, so happy and emotional while I read it. If I had to use a simile; this book is like a big ball of sunshine in my life - perfect for picking up on a beautiful summer day.
