Playlist #1 | 2016 Writing

4:37 PM

Up to this point in the year, I have been focusing on the characters and the setting of my story. In a way, I think that undertaking a contemporary project like this is even harder than the fantasy that I wrote for last years's NaNoWriMo. In fantasy, I can create everything. In this contemporary, I have settings and events that are grounded in reality. While I am probably going to end up creating little places such as a bar or a rest stop in the middle of nowhere, I can't take that much liberty with every aspect of the story.

Anyways, a basic overview of this project is probably required to really understand the songs that I have chosen. I'm going to keep this simple and short just because I don't want to give a bunch of stuff away before I have actually started writing and because I'm still coming up with a lot of the more intricate details. Here are a string of words that encapsulate what I am trying to go for: two women, fake date, pining, road trip, costume design, food trucks, camping. Yes, I am pretty much using some of my favorite tropes in this story and no, I don't care.

This playlist is only a small sampling of songs that I have connected in some way to this project. For example, there are a few Taylor Swift songs that aren't in this one just because she isn't on Spotify. I really like making playlists so there will be more in the future as I continue to discover what this story really is. These songs mostly remind me of my characters and their situations, some of them just fit the mood of the story. I hope you enjoy.
