Writer's Block | March Owlcrate Unboxing
1:04 PM
You can find more information about Owlcrate here. I purchased this box with my own money and I am in no way affiliated with Owlcrate. It goes without saying that this post reveals what the March box holds, so read at your own risk.
It has been a few months since I last received an Owlcrate box (November was the last one I purchased) but, when I heard the theme for the March offering, I couldn't resist. With Camp NaNoWriMo coming up and because I am (struggling through) planning a novel, a box based around writer's block seemed to be a perfect fit for my current situation. I was spoiled on one of the items in this month's box and, truth be told, my expectations really dropped after that. Did the items and book meet those lowered expectations? Let's find out.
The first thing in the box is always the card that explains everything that is inside. I really love this month's card. From the text on the phone to what the page on the typewriter says, this image is an accurate representation of what struggling through writer's block is like. I didn't take a photo if it, but the back of this card is super cute too, with doodles reminiscent of editing marks throughout the text.
Out of everything in this month's box, these two items are my favorites. The Kikkerland quill pen is so cute and fun, obviously reminding me of Harry Potter and I'm sure I will feel magical using it. The tiny book of prompts from Chronicle Books will be so useful. I am not the type of person that feels really comfortable in just journaling or writing about my life and my experiences on a day-to-day basis, so prompts are something that I am always looking for. From flipping through this book, I can tell that I will have a lot of fun with this.
Out of everything in this month's box, this is my least favorite goody (even though I love the Out of Print shop) - it is also the one I was spoiled on. For one thing, I don't like wearing socks and, when I do have to, I only wear ankle socks. Additionally, I don't have the skinniest of calves, so I don't like having tight fabric on them that often. I'm also torn on sending products that have sizing on them. These socks say that they are for shoe sizes through size 9 and I'm a size 10, so I'm not sure if these would fit comfortably even if I did want to wear them. I do like the theme of the socks, and I do appreciate Owlcrate incorporating items that interpret "writer's block" a bit differently, but I wish the this was a different item, such as a pouch (similar to the Edgar Allen Poe one we received in October) or a composition book.

I adore these little pins from Bookworm Boutique! I think it is really cool when shops make items exclusively for Owlcrate (I wish I could have gotten my hands on that Lunar Chronicles tote from a previous box). I'm not sure where exactly I will put these pins yet, but I know that they will make that location so much cuter. I love the design on the middle pin, and the phrases on all three are so relevant to my life.
I spent a lot of time thinking about what this month's book could be and, I'm happy to say, this one never even crossed my radar. It sounds really interesting and has gotten a lot of glowing reviews. At first, I anticipated it to be some sort of fantasy but it isn't, and I am excited to dig into it and see what has everyone loving this debut. Along with the book, we also received a letter from the author and a postcard that has a quote from the book on it. I love getting these supplemental goodies. You can check out this book's synopsis right here.
In all, I really enjoyed this March box. It is the last one I will be indulging myself in for quite some time, and I am happy that I decided to let myself receive this one. With only one item that I really dislike, I'd have to say that this has been my favorite of the three Owlcrates I have gotten.
What do you guys think of the March Owlcrate box? What are your thoughts on sized/clothing items in surprise subscription boxes? How do you cure writer's block? Let me know!
